Founded in 2024, the Luscofusco Quartet is a Spanish-Portuguese string quartet based in Belgium. Their name, luscofusco, describes the fleeting hour when light gives way to shadow — a fitting emblem for a group drawn to expressive contrast and the pursuit of musical depth.
The quartet formed under the tutelage of Pieter Jansen at the Ghent Conservatory and Guy Danel at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, and currently takes part in the Orpheus Institute’s Advanced Chamber Music Course. They have developed their artistry through masterclasses with the Vision String Quartet and the Barbican String Quartet, the Guadix International String Quartet Seminar with Jonathan Brown (Cuarteto Casals), Cibrán Sierra (Cuarteto Quiroga) and Antonio Gervilla (Kandinsky Quartet), and the FAME Institute String Quartet Seminar in Skopje with the Quartet Vivancos.
The ensemble is building an active concert career across Belgium, with performances at Bozar Hall in Brussels as part of the Bartók Marathon Festival, the Au Bain Miry Festival in Ghent, the Zomerfabriek in Antwerp, the Lauden series at St Bavo’s Abbey, the Maritime Classique concert series and the CasAperta concerts. The quartet is not interested in staying in one lane: it has already worked with experimental pop musicians and visual artists, and remains open to more.
